She refused to let it win

Jennifer Lopez-Figueroa was in the fifth grade when her life changed forever. At such a young age, Lopez-Figueroa noticed she was not able to see like she once could. It was affecting her studies at school as well as other aspects of her life, and she didn’t understand what was happening. 

She told her parents and eventually ended up at the hospital in Chapel Hill where they diagnosed her with cone-rod dystrophy.
