Board moves forward to dismantle water tower.

Mt. Gilead town board members voted last week to move forward with dismantling the town’s old water tower.  The old structure had become the subject of controversy over the last few months, with a small group asking the board to save the structure.

The board actually voted to remove the structure last August with no one voicing any opposition. At the September meeting the board was to officially accept a donation of $25,000 given to the town to assist in the demolition costs. That is when the group asked the town to reconsider their actions and preserve the old tower instead.
